Mick Anderson Wiesman is a PhD candidate in the Musicology program at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill also undertaking a graduate minor in American Studies. His dissertation project explores how Black women performers shape Broadway productions and what their experiences reveal about the construction of Black womanhood for the musical stage.

Mick holds a BA in Music with concentrations in Sacred Music and Choral Conducting from The College of William & Mary in Virginia; an MS in Arts Administration from Shenandoah Conservatory; an MA in Musicology from The University of New Hampshire; and an MA in Musicology from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Past research projects include a capstone exploring Felix Mendelssohn’s close relationship with his sister Fanny Hensel; a fundraising event plan for the Vietnam War Memorial; and his UNC master’s thesis exploring the sounds of student protest at UNC and the silences reflected in the University’s archives.

Anderson Wiesman is a member of the International Society for the Study of Musicals; the Society for American Music; and the American Studies Association. He is a graduate acquisitions fellow at the University of North Carolina Press and an alumnus of the American Musicological Society’s Sustainable Mentorship Program.
